SPORTSCOPE : All-Star Soccer Team Loses Title
The West L.A. Shooting Stars soccer team lost the championship game of the Hawaii Cup, but didn’t come home empty-handed.
The all-star team of 9- and 10-year-old girls won the Governor’s Cup, given to the team demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship in the tournament. The team also earned the Tournament Director’s Award, which includes a waiver for the $450 tournament fee for next year’s entry.
Goalies Sara Chieffo and Lynne Brinkman did not allow a goal during regulation play in the tournament and Elizabeth Bernier scored all but one of the team’s goals.
The Shooting Stars lost the championship game to Diamond Head (Oahu), 3-2, in a shoot-out.
