Newly crowned American Legion state champion Woodland Hills West will play Utah in the first round of the Southwest regional tournament Wednesday in Union City, Calif.
West (35-6), the defending World Series champion and winner of 29 of its past 30 games, will play at 4:35 p.m. at the James Logan High baseball complex. West won the state title with a 13-9 victory over Escondido last Tuesday in Yountville.
In other first-round games of the double-elimination tournament, Colorado will play Hawaii at 9:30 a.m. Immediately afterward, Nevada will play New Mexico. West’s game will be followed by Arizona versus Union City, the tournament host.
