Glen LeVier, who served as a part-time interim baseball coach at El Camino College last season, is expected to be named full-time head coach when the school’s board of trustees meets on Monday.
LeVier, 32, was a two-year assistant at Long Beach City College before coming to El Camino last year. From 1984 to 1987, he was the head coach at St. Anthony High in Long Beach, where his record was 61-27. The Saints made the playoffs every year LeVier coached the team.
From 1982 to 1983, LeVier was an assistant coach at Cal State L.A. In 1981, he served as an assistant at Cal State Long Beach. He played baseball at Rio Hondo College and Cal State L.A.
Last season, LeVier guided the Warriors to a 14-21-1 record, 6-13-1 in the South Coast Conference. He was recommended to the El Camino administration by former Warrior baseball Coach Tom Hicks, who is on permanent medical leave from coaching but remains at the school as a full-time faculty member.
“Tom told us ‘I have someone that can step in in a moment’s notice,’ ” El Camino Associate Athletic Director Dave Shannon said. “So we gave him a one-year, part-time contract and it worked out well. He’s a pleasant guy and a fine instructor.”
Shannon said there were 12 applicants for the job, which also includes teaching health science and physical education. District policy prohibits Shannon from revealing the names of the other candidates.
