Cypress Reaches Little League Series

The Cypress Little League all-stars advanced to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., by defeating Idaho, 3-2, Saturday night in the championship game of the Western Regional tournament in San Bernardino.
It was the 16th consecutive victory in postseason play for the Cypress all-stars (18-1).
With two outs in the fifth and the score tied, 2-2, Eddie Zamora scored from third on a wild pitch by Idaho’s John Hild. Zamora had reached first on an infield single and Matt Shelton singled him to third with two outs.
In the third, Cypress took a 1-0 lead when Pat Murphy walked, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Mark Slevcove’s single to left. Cypress’ Jake Koziel singled in winning pitcher Bob Brito, who singled and stole second, to give Cypress a 2-0 lead.
Idaho, represented by the East Boise Little League, scored two runs in the fourth to tie the score.
