U.S. Volleyball Team to Play

The U.S. men’s national volleyball team will compete in a public tournament beginning today and running through Friday at Horizon Gymnasium in Clairemont. Matches will be played at 4:30, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. daily.
Six teams will compete in tournament to benefit Youth Development International, an organization that raises funds for children’s programs throughout San Diego County.
Competing teams include the Men’s National ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams, the San Diego Ex-Oympians and three teams comprised of national team players and special invitees.
Tickets are $2 each night or $5 for five nights and are available at Horizon Gym, located at 5331 Mt. Alifan Drive.
SURFING
Chuy Reyna of Oceanside, a last-minute entry who surfed through eight rounds to reach the final, finished third in the Pro-Am division of the Croakies Malibu Surf Classic VI in Malibu. Reyna took home $2,800. Scott Blake of San Diego tied for ninth and Mike Lambresi of Oceanside and Sean Mattison of Carlsbad tied for 13th. Mattison is fourth among tour point leaders; Lambresi is ninth.
