NEWPORT BEACH — Laguna Beach was outmanned and outmaneuvered in a 41-7 loss to Newport Harbor at Davidson Field Friday night.
Newport Harbor, behind the passing of Steve Walker and the kicking of Josh Klein, dominated the Artists in the season opener for both teams. Laguna Beach quarterback Morgan Lanchantin was held to 53 yards passing in the first half, was intercepted twice and sacked five times.
Walker completed eight of 16 passes for 90 yards while Klein, an all-Southern Section selection, made two field goals from 41 and 24 yards out.
Laguna Beach got on the board with 2 minutes, 25 seconds left in the game when Lanchantin hit wide receiver Eric Fegraus on an 88-yard scoring pass.
Newport Harbor scored at 6:50 of the first quarter on Russell Olshefski’s 13-yard run. Klein’s 41-yard field goal followed.
