Brea-Olinda Beats Buena Park

Brea-Olinda High School couldn’t get its offense going early in Friday’s opener, but came alive to beat Buena Park, 14-7.

At the end of the first quarter, Buena Park quarterback Mark Medellin fumbled and Brea-Olinda’s Nick Logoteta recovered at the Buena Park 10-yard line. Brea-Olinda’s Jaime Baraglia caught a 10-yard pass from Jason Lauevanos to give Brea-Olinda a 7-0 lead with 52 seconds left in the first quarter.

Brea-Olinda scored again in the second quarter when Brook Coop’s 20-yard touchdown run with 8:22 left in the second quarter capped a a 65-yard drive. The big play of the drive was a halfback option pass by Logoteta to Baraglia for 30 yards on a third-down-and-seven situation. Brea-Olinda led, 14-0, at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Buena Park came on strong in the fourth quarter with Angel Barrios leading the way.

Barrios carried the ball 11 of the 14 plays that comprised Buena Park’s fourth-quarter scoring drive. Barrios’ 10-yard run to score with 9:37 remaining in the game cut the score to 14-7.
