PREP ROUNDUP : Late Goal by Yorba Keeps Tustin Unbeaten in Water Polo

Jeremy Yorba’s goal with 1 minute 5 seconds remaining in the game Thursday gave Tustin High School a 7-6 victory over Sunny Hills in the second round of the South Coast water polo tournament at Tustin.

Yorba finished with three goals and Damon Hannaman had four for Tustin (6-0). In its first-round game, Hannaman and Yorba each scored twice and Mike Gonzalez had seven saves to lead Tustin to an 8-5 victory over Marina.

Foothill 12, Canyon 6--Stacy Taylor and Andrea Claus swept to lead visiting Foothill (7-1 overall, 2-0 in league).

In Empire League girls’ tennis:

Los Alamitos 12, El Dorado 6--The team of Stephanie Springosky and Meredith Valt , swept, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, for visiting Los Alamitos (4-2, 2-0).

In Pacific Coast League girls’ tennis:

Estancia 13, Laguna Beach 5--The team of Jeanne Shobe and Samantha Joyner swept, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1, for host Estancia.

In Orange League girls’ tennis:

Savanna 11, Western 7--Senior Cindy Kuragami swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, and her freshman sister, Kathy, swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, to lead host Savanna (5-2, 1-1).

In Pacific Coast League girls’ tennis:

Laguna Hills 18, Century 0--Carrie Sisco and Noriko Hopkins each swept without losing a game for visiting Laguna Hills (2-7, 1-0).

In Sunset League girls’ tennis:

Marina 14, Ocean View 4--Tricia Dillenback swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead visiting Marina (7-1-1). Larissa Ng and Diamond Tran swept, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, for Marina.

Huntington Beach 17, Santa Ana 1--Tasha Monroe swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, to lead host Huntington Beach (7-1, 3-1).

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Fullerton 16, Millikan 2--Loraine Lau swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead visiting Fullerton (1-5-1).

In Sunset League girls’ volleyball:

Huntington Beach 3, Santa Ana 0--Heather Peters had 25 assists and seven aces as host Huntington Beach (4-2, 2-1) won, 10-15, 15-2, 15-6, 15-3.

In nonleague girls’ volleyball:

El Modena 3, Valencia 0--Marni Hichborn had 13 kills as host El Modena (6-0) defeated Valencia, the ninth-ranked team in Orange County, 15-4, 15-5, 15-3.

Sunny Hills 3, Savanna 0--Rachel Hochgesang had eight kills for visiting Sunny Hills (4-1), which won, 15-5, 15-6, 15-8.

El Dorado 3, Brea-Olinda 0--LaNea Jones had five kills and Charie Hallen added four as El Dorado (6-4) won, 15-4, 15-13, 15-1.

Loara 3, Fullerton 2--Tracy Titus had 21 kills and 15 blocks to lead host Loara (5-1) to an 8-15, 14-16, 15-7, 15-9, 15-3 victory.
