LOCAL : Teen Killed in Highland Park
Two gunmen in a car opened fire on a car stopped in the middle of a Highland Park street, killing a 16-year-old and wounding four others, police said today.
The confrontation between the two carloads of gang members in the middle of Avenue 50 Sunday night was one of five fatal attacks linked to gang activity over the weekend.
Investigators believe that the Highland Park incident occurred after the two cars, one with eight youths inside and the other carrying two, passed each other and then stopped when they recognized rivals, Detective Ron Whitt said.
“They started yelling gang slogans and throwing gang signs at each other until two (Latino) males left one car and walked over to the other,” Whitt said.
