PREP ROUNDUP : Villa Park Wins in Water Polo

Neal Brockmeier and Jon Stephenson scored in overtime to lead Villa Park High School to a 9-7 victory over Sunny Hills in a nonleague water polo game Monday at Independence Park. Villa Park (11-5) trailed with 1 minute 30 seconds left in regulation, but Josh Woolery scored from seven meters to make the score 7-6 with 1:28 remaining.

On Villa Park’s next possession, Kip Parsons scored from two meters to tie the score with 52 seconds left in regulation, forcing overtime.

In other nonleague water polo:

Laguna Hills 8, Orange 7--J.J. Carvin scored five goals to lead host Laguna Hills (5-1). Carvin scored the winning goal in a man-advantage situation with 1:34 left in the game. Jim Baldwin had 17 saves for Laguna Hills.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Marina 13, Laguna Hills 5--The doubles team of Thu Cao and Wendy Gratteau swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for host Marina (7-2-1). Norica Hopkins swept in singles, 6-1, 6-4, 6-1, for Laguna Hills.

El Toro 15, Laguna Beach 3--The doubles team of Denise Kenyon and Jessica Ledford swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, to lead host El Toro (3-5).

In Angelus League volleyball:

Rosary 3, Mater Dei 2--Wendy Herb had 13 kills and 12 blocks to lead Rosary (4-1, 1-0) to a 16-14, 15-10, 5-15, 8-15, 15-7 victory at Mater Dei.
