Irvine Takes to Air, Beats Dana Hills, 26-14

Junior quarterback Jason Minici passed for 304 yards and two touchdowns to lead Irvine High School to a 26-14 victory over Dana Hills in a South Coast League opener Friday night at Dana Hills High.

Minici threw touchdown passes of 25 and 55 yards as Irvine (5-1) came back from a 7-6 second-quarter deficit for the victory in front of 4,500.

Irvine running back Scott Seal added a touchdown on a 10-yard run and was the game’s leading rusher with 125 yards in 24 carries.

Dana Hills (3-2-1) was led by quarterback Albie Sukut, who passed for 167 yards and ran for a 15-yard touchdown.

Mark Huffman and Chris Perry each caught a touchdown pass from Minici. After Dana Hills jumped out to a 7-6 lead in the second quarter, Minici threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Perry to make it 12-7 at the half.

Irvine then scored the clinching touchdown on a 55-yard pass from Minici to Huffman with 9:56 left in the third quarter.
