THE SIDELINES : Padres Sign On 2 New Coaches
Former St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Mike Roarke and former Seattle Mariners Manager Jim Snyder were added today to the San Diego Padres coaching staff.
Roarke replaces Pat Dobson, who left San Diego last week to coach the Kansas City Royals’ pitchers, while Snyder fills an opening created by the firing of third-base coach Sandy Alomar Sr. two weeks ago. Snyder’s coaching responsibilities with the Padres have not yet been determined.
Roarke, 59, became Whitey Herzog’s pitching coach in 1984. He was released after the 1990 season by Joe Torre, who succeeded Herzog as the Cardinals manager in July.
Snyder comes to San Diego from the Chicago White Sox organization, where he has spent the past two seasons as director of minor league instruction and camp coordinator.
