COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Moorpark’s Bradley Sets Scoring Records

It took 24 years, but the last of O.J. Simpson’s national career junior college football records have been broken.

Freddie Bradley, a sophomore at Moorpark College, needed two touchdowns Saturday night against Ventura to break Simpson’s record of 50 touchdowns, and seven points to surpass the 304 points Simpson amassed in 18 games for City College of San Francisco in 1965-66.

Bradley, who had already broken Simpson’s record of 43 rushing touchdowns in a career, rushed for three touchdowns in a 44-10 victory at Moorpark, giving him 52. The 18 points gave him 318.

Bradley, who gained 171 yards in 23 carries, was also unofficially credited with 184 all-purpose yards, which would give him 4,122, breaking the career record of 4,115 set by Alonzo Washington of Gavilan in 1985-86.

The three touchdowns gave Bradley 174 points this season, moving him into second on the all-time list behind Larry Battle of Reedley, who scored 204 points in 1970.

He tied Simpson’s record on Moorpark’s third scrimmage play when he scored on a 43-yard run. He broke it on a two-yard run late in the second quarter.

Bradley’s 171 rushing yards gave him 1,947 in 10 games, moving him up to fifth on the all-time list. The single-season record is 2,088 yards by Clyde Russell of Garden City, Kan., in 1971.
