Whitlock’s 36, Gipson’s 26 Lead Loara
Whitlock scored 36 points, and Charlie Gipson had 26 points and 17 rebounds as Loara defeated Compton, 88-79, in a nonleague basketball game Friday at Loara.
Whitlock, a senior guard who was second Orange County in scoring last season, made a half-court shot in the last seconds of the first quarter to gave Loara a 20-19 lead.
The Saxons (2-1) never trailed again and led, 46-33, at the half.
Compton made a mini-run, outscoring Loara, 24-20, in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t nearly enough.
