In a boys’ Metro Conference game:

Sweetwater 78, Montgomery 42--Center Kevin Rushing scored 30 points, 18 in the first half, as the Red Devils improved to 7-1, 3-0 in the Metro Conference. Sweetwater, which outscored the Aztecs, 36-11, in second half, also got double-figures scoring from Pat Woodson (15), David Gregorio (11) and Tommy Keough (10). Montgomery fell to 2-3, 1-1 in league.

Nonleague:

Morse 68, Madison 55--After trailing by one at the half, Morse started getting the ball inside in the third and fourth quarters and pulled away. Darnell Cherry, a 6-foot-9 senior center, scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half. Maurice Vickers also had 13 for Morse and teammates Edmond Jackson and Jamar Lavendar each scored 11. Madison’s Chris Fatilua led all scorers with 16 points. Morse improved to 3-1, while Madison fell to 3-3.

Lincoln 111, El Centro 63--Lincoln scored 60 points in the second half and used full-court pressure to force turnovers. Barry Randle scored 35 points and 16 rebounds and Dennis Washington had 13 assists for the Hornets. Both teams are now 3-4.

San Diego 86, USDHS 58--San Diego improved to 4-0 as Mike Watson led with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Teammate Marino Bowman scored 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dealt three assists and J. R. Greer hit for 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and passed for three assists.

Serra 62, St. Augustine 50--Center Joey Wojdowski scored 15 points, 13 in the first half, and forward Tony Etheridge had 14, all in the first half for Serra, which improved to 3-3. St. Augustine (5-1) got 13 from Mark Magee but couldn’t overcome a 30-14 halftime deficit.

Patrick Henry 59, Mission Bay 55--The difference was an 18-14 scoring edge for Patrick Henry (5-4) in the second quarter. John Pike scored 26 for the Patriots and Damion Wade scored 11. Wyatt Spencer scored 18 and Rick Moe 10 for Mission Bay.

Escondido 79, Orange Glen 57--Damian Cephus, a 6-foot-7 junior, blocked six shots, grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 32 points to lead Escondido. Mike Frank scored 17 and had 13 rebounds. James Parker led Orange Glen with 23.

Hoover 58, La Jolla 54--Mike Martin scored 32 points and Hoover outscored La Jolla 18-11 in the final quarter. David Alexander and Craig Woodall scored 16 each for La Jolla (0-7).

Cloverdale 65, LJCD 47--La Jolla Country Day led 19-12 after one quarter, but Cloverdale, which held a 30-21 edge in rebounds, outscored the Torres by 18 over the next two periods. Noah Katsell led LJCD (5-3) with 14 points, while Larry Cheng added 10.
