Three families were displaced--but all escaped injury--during a three-alarm fire Christmas morning at a condominium complex in the south Clairemont area, authorities said.
Five residents were able to escape after a 15-year-old boy heard the smoke alarm and alerted his family, leading to their successful exit via the roof, the San Diego Fire Department said.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
Three units at the two-story, six-dwelling complex were damaged, authorities said. Damage was estimated at a minimum of $400,000.
The fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at a complex in the 3000 block of Old Bridgeport Way. Firefighters declared the blaze contained at 3:43 a.m.
Fire department investigators are still attempting to determine the cause.
