School: El Dorado High

Sport: Basketball

Position: Forward

Class: Senior

Tomko is El Dorado’s leading scorer, but during the fourth quarter of a game Thursday, he virtually became the Golden Hawks’ only scorer. Tomko, a first-year starter who twice had scored 24 points in a game this season almost matched that total in a quarter, scoring 23 of El Dorado’s 30 points as the Hawks forced Compton into overtime in a consolation game of the Brea-Olinda tournament. Tomko then scored seven of his team’s 11 points in overtime, and El Dorado won 86-83. His scoring total--55 points--tied Troy’s Mark Wulfemeyer for the third-highest performance in Orange County history. Tomko, who had 116 points in the four games of the tournament while helping El Dorado to the consolation championship game, made 20 of the 26 shots he took in the Compton game. “He didn’t miss a shot in the second half,” El Dorado Coach Wayne Carlson said. “I wondered if he was going to miss again. It got to the point in the fourth quarter and overtime where you knew if he got the ball it was going in.”
