GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE ROUNDUP : La Quinta Gives Garden Grove Lots of Help
La Quinta High School lost, 90-63, to Garden Grove in a Garden Grove League opener Wednesday night at La Quinta, but the score wasn’t the worst of it.
Aztec coach Jim Perry watched two of his players shoot--and score--in the wrong basket. Perry also drew two technical fouls in the third quarter after disputing a blocking foul on a La Quinta player.
“The official blew that call,” Perry said, “but it wasn’t the officiating that was the difference tonight.”
Garden Grove led, 41-33, at the half, but outscored La Quinta, 28-10, in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout.
Mark Perry led Garden Grove in scoring with 24 points and also had 14 rebounds. Cornel Archer added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Li Riopelle led La Quinta with 16 points, and Dusty DePree added 15.
