HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Agoura Pulls Off Another Shocker

Agoura High has made its presence felt in its first season in the Marmonte League, defeating each of the three teams that are tied for first place. The Chargers’ latest upset was an 81-66 victory over Camarillo on Wednesday night. Earlier, Agoura defeated Thousand Oaks and Channel Islands.

Sean Martin, a senior guard, scored a game-high 36 points for Agoura (10-6, 4-4 in league play), outdueling Camarillo senior guard David Harbour, who had 33 points. The Scorpions fell to 12-4, 6-2.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Channel Islands 73, Westlake 66--Stephane Brown scored a game-high 30 points and Marlowe Durmiendo added 15 for host Channel Islands (14-4, 6-2) in a Marmonte League game.

Esau Blanco scored a team-high 23 points for Westlake (5-11, 2-6).

Thousand Oaks 79, Newbury Park 66--Forward Chris Loll and center Shane Graham each had 21 points and seven rebounds for Thousand Oaks (15-3, 6-2), which took a 43-29 halftime lead in the Marmonte League game. Guard Brian Capella added 11 points. Tim Lane had 18 points for Newbury Park (4-12, 1-7).

Taft 66, Kennedy 53--Casey Sheahan scored 27 points and Eric Dafney added 18 for Taft (13-5, 5-1) in a North Valley League game at Kennedy.

El Camino Real 73, San Fernando 43--The Conquistadores led, 41-13, at halftime and limited San Fernando to four points in the first quarter in a West Valley League game at San Fernando.

Markee Brown had 33 points and 11 rebounds and Jaffers Bailey added 16 points and 10 blocks for El Camino Real (9-7, 2-4).

Reseda 66, Chatsworth 57--Jeff Gilmore (17 points), Marquis Burns (16) and James Pigford (15) paced visiting Reseda in the West Valley League game.

Grant 55, Birmingham 39--Eric Brown scored a game-high 15 points on five three-point baskets to lead the Lancers (14-2, 8-0) to an East Valley League victory.

Poly 68, Sherman Oaks CES 48--Steve McCann scored a game-high 20 points to help the Parrots (6-9, 5-3) beat host Sherman Oaks CES (9-10, 5-3) in an East Valley League game.

South Gate 58, Canoga Park 50--The Hunters took a two-point lead after an 11-0 run with 3:34 remaining, but South Gate responded with a 13-3 run down the stretch at Canoga Park.

Jordan 68, North Hollywood 66--Robert Hill scored a game-high 25 points, but host North Hollywood (9-9) lost the nonleague game despite rallying from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Santa Barbara 85, Rio Mesa 71--Greg Bellman scored 21 points for Rio Mesa, but the Spartans (7-11, 4-4) fell in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara.

Nordhoff 82, Thacher 62--Tim Sebek had 29 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists to lead Nordhoff (11-7) in a nonleague game at Thacher. Kevin Cochran scored 19 points for Nordhoff.

Camp Kilpatrick 84, Santa Paula 76--Marlon Randolph scored 28 points and Bernar Wallace added 17 to lead the Mustangs (14-5) to a nonleague victory over host Santa Paula (9-8). Joey Ramirez had 36 points for the Cardinals, and George Albanez added 19.

Westside Prep 84, Highland Hall 72--John Klejnot scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Highland Hall (7-7, 4-3) in a Westside League game.

North Hollywood 78, Jordan 45--Jacinda Sweet scored 26 points and Suzi Shimoyama added 11 points, eight steals and six assists to pace visiting North Hollywood (17-3) to a nonleague win.

Sherman Oaks CES 39, Poly 37--Monique Davidson scored 11 points in the East Valley League game to help Sherman Oaks CES post its first victory in three seasons.

Reseda 54, Cleveland 53--Carolina Abrego made two free throws with no time left to propel Reseda (6-7, 3-3) to an upset win at home.

Van Nuys 58, Fremont 51--Cicely Brewster scored a team-high 19 points and Houng Thai added 14 for visiting Van Nuys (16-4).

Granada Hills 57, Chatsworth 23--Karen Berkowitz scored 25 points and Shelise Tillman added 14 for Granada Hills (4-6, 1-1).
