Montclair Prep Pair to Play for New Mexico

Defensive players Neimad Durham and Rusty Savage of Montclair Prep have committed to New Mexico and will sign football national letters of intent Wednesday, the first day of the winter signing period, the school announced Thursday.

In addition, Montclair Prep’s Dylan Jones, a 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back, has been academically accepted at Harvard and will play football for the Ivy League school in the fall.

Durham chose New Mexico over University of the Pacific and Savage picked the Lobos over Northern Arizona. Savage still must score the NCAA-required 700 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Durham (6-1, 210) was recruited as a linebacker but also played fullback for the Mounties, who won the Southern Section Division X championship last fall. He rushed for 294 yards in 58 carries and scored seven touchdowns.

Savage (6-3, 240), a defensive lineman, earned a scholarship despite playing only the last half of the season. He received a court injunction to play after the Southern Section had denied his request for a fifth year of eligibility before the season.
