COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton Wins Easily in Baseball

Fullerton College had 14 hits and scored at least one run in seven of nine innings as the Hornets defeated College of the Canyons, 10-2, in a nonconference baseball game at Valencia.

Fullerton scored single runs in the first and second, two each in the third, and fifth, one each in the sixth and seventh, and two more in the eighth.

Fullerton was coming off a 7-6 loss Monday in which Riverside scored five runs in the ninth to tie and two more in the 10th to win.

Ramon Apodaca, Fullerton’s No. 2 hitter, walked five times and scored four runs Tuesday. He stuck out in his other at-bat.

Sophomore Tom Wilson had four hits including two doubles also for Fullerton (4-2). Joey Perez and Chris Johnson had two hits and two runs batted in each for Fullerton and Dave Moore had two hits. Fullerton had at least one hit in each inning.

“We stayed after them all day,” Fullerton Coach Nick Fuscardo said. “We really swung the bats well.”

In another nonconference baseball game:

MiraCosta 4, Saddleback 3 (11 innings)--Tim Buckholtz’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th scored the winning run for MiraCosta (2-1). Saddleback had tied the score in the top of ninth when Buster Nietzke hit a two-out, two-strike, bases-empty home run. Nietzke was two for five and Rob Nye had three hits for the Gauchos (1-1).
