In her fourth season as a starter, Lumpkin has increased her scoring average, improved her defense and, possibly most important, changed her attitude. “She used to come to practice and not smile and look like she wasn’t having a good time,” Estancia Coach Lisa McNamee said. “But now that she’s playing better, she smiles a lot and she’s always joking around.” McNamee said Lumpkin’s more-relaxed attitude is one of the reasons the Eagles (23-1) have done so well this season. Lumpkin’s best game of the year was their final Pacific Coast League game Thursday against Costa Mesa. She had 29 points and 12 rebounds and Estancia won, 56-46, to remain undefeated in league. Earlier in the week, she scored 17 points in a 64-51 victory over Trabuco Hills.

Other top performers:

Gillian Bean, who scored 21 points in a 65-56 victory over Huntington Beach and 14 points in a 63-39 victory over Fountain Valley as Marina finished an undefeated Sunset League season.

Julie Ehret, who had two shutouts--a 3-0 victory over Orange and a 0-0 tie with Canyon--as Foothill won the Century League soccer championship.
