In another 4-A boys’ game:

Santa Margarita 1, Fountain Valley 0--Jerome Pierce scored for host Santa Margarita (16-6-1).

In 2-A boys’ games:

El Dorado 1, Indio 1 (El Dorado advances on penalty kicks, 4-2)--Scott Anderson scored with eight minutes left in the first half for host El Dorado (13-9-2), but El Dorado sweeper Matt Haynes accidentally scored for Indio while trying to kick the ball back to his goalkeeper with one minute remaining in the half.

Anaheim 4, La Quinta 1--Mike Tsarnas scored twice and Jaime Garcia and William Monge scored for host Anaheim (18-1-3).

Katella 2, Bishop Montgomery 0--Mike Rubio and Jose Figueroa scored second-half goals for host Katella (15-3-5), which had its seventh consecutive shutout.

Laguna Hills 3, Valencia 2 (OT)--Brandon Wenzel scored with 37 seconds left in overtime for host Laguna Hills, which had tied it, 2-2, on a goal by Juan Strutton with seven minutes left. Brian Monroe and Ryan Wilson scored for Valencia (10-9-3).

In Division 4-A girls’ games:

Mater Dei 2, Esperanza 0--Kirsten Keyler put the Monarchs (22-3-2) ahead, 1-0, nine minutes into the game off an assist by Diana Awadallah. Awadallah scored early in the second half on a direct free kick from about 40 yards out.

Mater Dei, seeded second in the division and defending 3-A champion, played a physical game, committing 22 fouls to nine for Esperanza (20-3-3). Monarch defender Alison Salinger closely guarded Esperanza forward Lynn Murray, who only got off two shots, both in the first half. Murray finished the season with 33 goals and 29 assists, setting a county single-season record for assists. La Quinta’s Kristin Harkins had 25 in 1984-85.
