Aztecs Rally to Dump San Jose State

San Diego State scored six runs in the seventh inning to score a 9-7 nonconference baseball victory Sunday over visiting San Jose State at Smith Field. The Aztecs trailed 6-2 entering the inning but scored big on four hits, an error and three walks. Bill Dunckel’s RBI double tied the game at six, and he scored the go-ahead run on Chris Page’s single. Dunckel finished with two hits.

SDSU is 7-3, San Jose State 4-5.

U.S. International played its worst game of the season, losing 14-3 to San Francisco State, one day after playing its best game of the year and upsetting UCLA, 3-1. USIU (5-7) allowed six unearned runs in the game and committed four errors.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Tonya Fuller of University of San Diego defeated former San Dieguito High standout Heidi Djanogly of the University of New Mexico, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 singles to lift USD to a 9-0 victory. USD is 5-1 this season. Fuller and Julie McKeon also beat Djanogly and Dina Birch in No. 1 doubles, 7-6, 6-2. Djanogly won the San Diego Section doubles title in 1988.

BOWLING

Wendy MacPherson of San Diego took second place at the $35,000 Central Florida Classic in Winter Park, Fla. MacPherson lost to Panorama City’s Tish Johnson in the championship, 235-213.
