Owens has had to do it all for Capistrano Valley Christian this season, but before last week he and the Eagles had little to show for it. Although Owens averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds during the regular season, Capistrano Valley Christian only won three of 23 games. With a victory over Montclair Prep in the second round of the Division V-AA playoffs today, the Eagles will have doubled that total. Owens, 6 feet 3, had 30 points and 11 rebounds in a 72-60 victory over Linfield and 14 points in a 43-40 victory over Chadwick. Coach Art Jenkins said Owens played his best game of the season against Chadwick--a team that beat the Eagles by 25 in a tournament earlier this season. Owens’ coolness against the press, his six assists and six rebounds also made the victory possible, Jenkins said.

Other top performers:

Josh Borella, who scored 25 points for Laguna Beach in a 87-46 victory over Cantwell and 46 points in a 79-55 victory over Bishop in IV-A games.
