Brandon Jessie scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in Edison’s 71-49 victory over Elsinore in a Division II-AA playoff game Tuesday at Edison High School.
Jessie set an Edison recordfor rebounds in a single season, surpassing John Fisher’s 345 set in 1969-70, said Edison Coach Jon Borchert.
“We played solid defense all night and we played solid on the boards, which forced Elsinore to take the outside shot,” Borchert said. “Defense and boards were the keys for us tonight.”
Edison (21-6) will play Tustin on Friday.
Said Elsinore (18-8) Coach Roger Blake: “We got our butts kicked. Edison dominated the rebounding in the first half and it was much more aggressive than we were.”
Edison’s aggressive play kept Elsinore from effectively using its press.
“We also missed easy shots early (which helped Edison enter the second quarter with a 20-9 lead) and we failed to hit any shots outside of 12 feet until the final minutes of play,” Blake said.
