COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Anderson’s Hitting Helps Chapman Defeat Dominguez Hills

Chris Anderson had two runs batted in and scored a run as Chapman defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-2, in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball game at Hart Park on Thursday.

Chapman (4-8, 1-0 in the CCAA) trailed, 2-0, with one out in the eighth inning, when Mike Giuseffi singled and Marvin Mack doubled to put runners on second and third. Anderson then doubled to clear bases and tie the score.

One out later, Torrie Sweet was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, and Chris Sauritch singled to score Anderson for the winning run.

Pete Coleman (3-1) allowed three hits in nine innings and struck out six for the victory. Cal State Dominguez Hills is 4-5, 0-1.

In nonconference baseball:

College of Idaho 8, Christ College Irvine 4--Terry Robinson had three hits and scored a run and Mike Adams had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice for Christ College Irvine (7-5), which never led.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Nevada Las Vegas 78, UC Irvine 57--Debra Davis scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for 17th-ranked Las Vegas (22-5, 13-3) at UC Irvine. The score was tied, 35-35, at halftime but Davis scored 13 of her points after the half to lead Las Vegas.

Irvine (5-20, 3-13) led, 44-43, with 15 minutes 57 seconds left to play until Las Vegas went on a 14-0 run to lead 57-44 with 11:23 left. Jenny Lee scored 20 points and Kathy Lizarraga scored 15 for Irvine.

Janice Holliday, who scored 10 of her points in an eight-minute span of the second half, scored 14 points and teammate Tasha Bradley also added 14 points for Las Vegas.

In men’s Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. play:

UC Irvine 3, Brigham Young 2--Leland Quinn had 35 kills as visiting UC Irvine defeated Brigham Young, 15-12, 15-12, 12-15, 11-15, 17-16 for its first victory of the season. Steve Florentine had 23 kills and Dave Pettker had 24 for UC Irvine (1-6). Brigham Young is 0-14.
