SOCCER ROUNDUP : Torrey Pines Makes Final Again

Top-seeded and three-time defending 3-A champion Torrey Pines has won San Diego Section girls’ soccer championships seven times in the past 10 years.
Although the format is new, the Falcons made it to their eighth final in the last decade, with a 2-0 Division II semifinal victory over Helix at El Camino High.
Torrey Pines goalie Larkin Chases chalked up her 18th shutout of the season.
Alyson Ross scored 10 minutes into the first half. Helix gave the Falcons (21-2-2) a little trouble toward the end of the first, but Torrey Pines was able to regain control in the second.
Christy Peters, on as assist by Ashley Hanson, closed it the scoring in the 64th minute. Helix finished with a 14-5-4 record.

Divison IV
Christian 1, La Jolla Country Day 0 (OT)--Justin Demaree scored on a penalty kick 2:34 into the first overtime to give Christian the victory and its first trip to the section finals. Although it is the third-highest scoring team in the East County, Christian (14-6-2) could not break LJCD’s defense.
Christian will play Bishop’s Saturday at 5 p.m. in the finals at a site to be determined.
