SOUTHERN SECTION BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : DIVISION V-AA : Brethren Christian’s Comeback Fails
A cold-shooting spell in the fourth quarter sabotaged Brethren Christian’s comeback bid against Brentwood on Tuesday night, when the Warriors lost, 65-40, in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs at Harvard High.
Brethren (23-6), trailing 16-6 after the first quarter and 43-32 after three, shot only 16% (two of 12) in the fourth quarter, when they were outscored, 22-8. Senior guard Brandon Stott led the Warriors with 15 points, scoring 13 of Brethren’s 18 second-half points.
The Warriors’ problems were compounded by poor rebounding. They were beat on the boards, 40-21.
Kevin Rille led Brentwood (17-10) with 16 points. Ricky David added 14 and Scott Clarey 13, including six in the fourth quarter.
“Brethren had a good team the last two years,” Stott said. “I consider myself lucky to have chance to play with a winner.”
Brethren advanced to the 1-A Division final last season, losing to Faith Baptist.
