Richman Wins Louisiana Derby
NEW ORLEANS —
Richman, ridden by Pat Day, held off fast-closing Near The Limit to win the Louisiana Derby by two lengths Sunday.
Richman, the betting favorite in the 11-horse field, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:44 2/5.
It was Day’s third Louisiana Derby victory. He won on Country Light in 1986 and on J.T.’s Pet in 1987.
Richman paid $2.80, $2.80 and $2.40. Near The Limit paid $6.80 and 4.40. Far Out Wadleigh was third and paid $3.20.
