School: Savanna High Sport: Wrestling Weight class: 135 pounds Class: Senior

In winning his second consecutive state title, Okada thrilled the Spanos Center crowd in Stockton with a tuck-and-roll takedown final match and won over his peers who voted him the Champion of Champions. Okada, who won the 132-pound weight class last year, pinned one opponent and outscored the other four, 57-14, in helping Savanna, the Southern Section Division 3-A champions, to a 13th-place finish in the state. Okada, who is an Olympic judo hopeful, is a takedown specialist and if he takes down his opponent quickly, he will often let him up only to take him down again. “Mostly, I beat them on technique,” Okada said. “I’m really not as strong as most of them.” That technique propelled him to a 103-1 record over the past two seasons; he was 185-15 in four years of wrestling. “He doesn’t like to lose at all,” Savanna Coach Tom Caspari said. “He’s really confusing to wrestle. He basically beat the five guys Friday and Saturday three different ways.”

Other top performers:

David Beilstein, who scored 37 points in two Tustin victories, including 20 in the Tillers’ 70-42 victory over Riverside North in the Division II-AA title game.

Matt Fuerbringer, who had 21 points and 21 rebounds in Estancia’s 48-45 loss to Pomona in the III-AA championship.
