HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Young Switches On Power in Rio Mesa’s Opener

Share

For Rio Mesa High standout Dmitri Young, it didn’t take long for a first-year switch-hitting experiment to pay off.

In Rio Mesa’s opener, Young banged out three hits to lead the host Spartans to an 11-7 victory over Saugus in a Westside tournament game.

Young, who also stole a base, singled and doubled while batting left-handed and belted a grand slam from his accustomed right side of the plate. It was his second career slam and 19th home run in his four-year varsity career.
