Over 14,000 Participants Expected for St. Patrick’s Day Run

The 12th annual Tom Sullivan St. Patrick’s Day 10-K Run and 5-K Stride will be held March 17 at Del Amo Fashion Center. Organizers expect more than 14,000 participants and 10,000 spectators.

In conjunction with the event, Olympic marathon gold medalist Frank Shorter will join other speakers at a fitness workshop March 16 at the Torrance Marriott. Shorter will speak on “Fitness Over 40.” The workshop runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information: (212) 714-1280.

Chris Thompson, 10, of Rolling Hills Estates placed first and Victor Bowman, 7, of Palos Verdes Estates placed fifth in age-group all-around gymnastic competition at the South Conference Championships on Sunday in Covina. Both compete for Studio West of Rolling Hills Estates. They are coached by Carl Cruz.

The Greater Los Angeles Soccer League plays host to a pair of games Sunday at Daniels Field in San Pedro. At 1 p.m. Empire Riverside plays Yugoslav Airlines, followed at 3 by Inter Los Angeles and Inter America. Information: (213) 548-7728.

As part of the Copa Norteamerica, a select soccer team including many U.S. World Cup team players will compete against a select team of Canadian Nationals on March 16 at 1 p.m. at El Camino College. At 11 a.m. a pair of select teams of men under 23 years old will compete in a preliminary game. Ticket prices have not been made available.

Sign-ups for the American Roundball Corp. Future Stars Spring Leagues will be held Sunday at the North Torrance High gymnasium. The league is for boys in grades 7-12. Southern California Over-The-Line and Slo-Two-Pitch Softball is accepting applications for its spring season, to be held at sites throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. Over-the-line team fees are $39. Each team is guaranteed at least four games. Slow-pitch team fees are $180. Each team is guaranteed at least three games. All events are finished in one day. Applications are available for the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball camp, which will be held March 27-29. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 1-11. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $50 if registered before opening day. A $10 charge will be added for registration March 27 or later.
