In other Canyon Softball Tournament games:

Fountain Valley 2, Garden Grove 1--Rae Rice (5-0) pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 for Fountain Valley (8-1).

Canyon 2, La Habra 1--Sara Roberts (8-0) pitched a three-hitter and struck out 14 for Canyon (11-2).

El Modena 2, Santa Margarita 1--Alexis Beckman (5-4) pitched a four-hitter and struck out four for El Modena (5-4). Beckman also doubled home one run and scored the winning run.

Savanna 2, Hawthorne 1--Leigh Sager had a four-hitter and struck out eight for Savanna (6-4-1). Carrie Frederick had a hit and scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice by Kim Eastborn in the third inning.

Mater Dei 1, Gahr 0--Jennifer Clark (4-1) pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven for Mater Dei (9-1) at Peralta Park.

In the Woodbridge softball tournament:

El Toro 12, Saddleback 1--Misty Lauby pitched a one-hitter, striking out six, and Karen Clair had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for El Toro (5-6). Saddleback is 5-5.

La Mirada 16, Los Amigos 0--Tanya Dickens pitched a perfect game for La Mirada, striking out 16. La Mirada had 20 hits.

Foothill 2, Huntington Beach 0--Stephanie Nofsinger pitched a three-hitter in a losing cause.

Huntington Beach 11, Dana Hills 1--At Harvard Park in Irvine, Dana Jahr’s two-run double sparked a seven-run first inning for Huntington Beach (4-6). Shelley Nelson scored two runs and had three RBIs, and Danielle Bowman had three hits for Huntington Beach. Laura Minard (3-2) threw a complete game five-hitter for Huntington Beach.

In the Cypress tournament:

Kennedy 4, Santiago 0--Cheryl Longeway (7-1) had perfect game until Santiago got two hits with one out in the seventh inning. Longeway struck out 13 and Kristy Hensell went two for two with two RBIs, one run scored and a walk.

In the boys’ Canyon Swim Relays:

Capistrano Valley won all eight events to finish with 240 points, ahead of Villa Park (172) and Foothill (162). In the 200-yard butterfly relay, Capistrano Valley set a meet record of 1:42.61, bettering the 1:43.21 set by San Clemente.

In the girls’ Canyon Swim Relays:

Foothill won four of the eight events for 215 points. Woodbridge scored 167 points and Capistrano Valley 158. Foothill broke Capistrano Valley’s 2:04.09 meet record in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:01.65.

At the Pasadena Invitational track meet:

Record for Parlin--Esperanza’s Mark Parlin set a meet record by throwing the discus 182 feet 11 1/2 inches. The previous record was 170-0 last year by Bakersfield’s Jeff Buckey, who finished second at 180-10. Parlin also won the shotput with a mark of 61-3.
