Other nonleague games:

Mount Carmel 7, USDHS 6--Trailing by two going into the bottom of the seventh, Mount Carmel coach Steve Edwards played a hunch and sent seldom-used Mario Isreal in to pinch hit.

“He’s been hitting real well in batting practice,” Edwards said.

Israel came through in the real thing with a leadoff double to spark a three-run rally that overcame USDHS’ two-run lead.

Israel moved to third on Travis Prentice’s single and both runners scored when Andy Owen hit a one-out double. Chris Chavez stepped up next and smacked a single into center, scoring Owen with the winning run as Mount Carmel improved to 10-5-2.

Clairemont 5, Lincoln 4--Craig Goodwin homered in the first for Clairemont (6-6-1), then came in to pitch the last two innings for his second save of the season. Starter Josh Severson got his first victory and, offensively, went two for two and scored a run.
