PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Rancho Alamitos’ Winemiller Settles for One-Hit Victory

Sophomore right-hander Erin Winemiller pitched a one-hitter for Rancho Alamitos, which defeated Pacifica, 4-3, in a Garden Grove League baseball game Wednesday at Rancho Alamitos.

Winemiller (3-5) walked three and struck out one. He took a 2-1 lead and a no-hitter into the seventh but allowed a two-run home run. Rancho Alamitos (5-8, 2-5 in league) then scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.

Brian Jordan’s single tied the score, 3-3, and the winning run scored on an error.

In other Garden Grove League games:

Garden Grove 5, Kennedy 3--Joe Aguirre (4-2) allowed seven hits, struck out nine and walked five for his fourth consecutive victory for visiting Garden Grove (8-6, 5-2). Jim Sebreros had two hits, including a two-run single in the fifth inning. Gary Henson had three hits, including two doubles, and one RBI.

La Quinta 3, Los Amigos 2--Brett Osborn gave up only one earned run for host La Quinta (16-4, 6-1). Osborn (6-1) struck out two and didn’t walk a batter. He has allowed only two earned runs in his past 48 innings. Osborn also had a run-scoring single in the second inning. La Quinta scored two runs without a hit in the sixth on three walks and a hit batter.

Santiago 13, Bolsa Grande 3--Mike Kissell (6-1) pitched a five-hitter, struck out five and walked two and Balfred Guzman had two hits and five RBIs for host Santiago (13-6, 6-1). Vince Mitchell hit a two-run home run for Bolsa Grande.

In the Angelus League:

St. John Bosco 16, Servite 9--St. John Bosco scored 12 runs in the first inning on eight hits. Matt Muller had three hits, including a home run in the fourth inning for visiting Servite (9-8, 3-4).

Loyola 3, Mater Dei 2--Riley Hayes’ suicide squeeze scored John Mastandrea in the bottom of the seventh inning for host Loyola. Dave Gonzales hit a home run in the second inning for Mater Dei (8-8, 3-3).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 18, Loara 2--Chris Barlow had two hits, including a two-run home run, and three RBIs to lead host El Dorado (14-4, 7-1). John Street had three hits and two RBIs and Eric Ayala had two hits and two RBIs for the Golden Hawks.

Katella 10, Los Alamitos 0--Corey Doll (5-2) pitched a two-hit shutout for the second consecutive game, striking out six and walking none. Kyle Evans hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Brian Baker had two hits and two RBIs for Katella (10-7, 6-2).

Esperanza 24, Cypress 2--John Pitts had four hits and five RBIs and Pancho Ruiz had three hits, scored three times and had three RBIs for visiting Esperanza (16-2, 6-2).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 3, Fullerton 1--Jason Johnson hit a two-run single in the first inning and Danny Evans hit a home run in the fifth inning for visiting La Habra. Rusty Volkert struck out seven and allowed seven hits in 6 2/3 innings for La Habra (7-5, 5-3).

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 2, Brea-Olinda 0--Jesse Caron, a senior right-hander, pitched a three-hitter for host Magnolia (8-7, 5-3). Caron (5-2) had seven strikeouts. Tony Treul had two hits and scored a run for Magnolia.
