Fan Revolt Brewing at Long Beach Race?
I attended the Long Beach Grand Prix on April 14. While the race was enjoyable, the overall experience was not. It appears that the organizers paid considerable money for security personnel who were hired not to facilitate and help racegoers, but to hinder and challenge them.
As spectators approached the south grandstands, security personnel were stationed at two fence checkpoints. Everyone with beer cups was stopped and ordered to dump or drink their beer. Was this a noble effort to prevent overconsumption? No. I learned from a security supervisor that the checkpoints separated a “Budweiser” zone from two “Coors” zones.
Butt out, Budweiser, and cool it, Coors. Perhaps the Long Beach City Council needs to figure out how to tear down the wall.
