REGIONAL ROUNDUP : Fillmore Falls to Santa Clara

Share

Not content to let Fillmore High run away with the Frontier League baseball title, Santa Clara and pitcher Garth Teron tightened things up in the standings with a 3-0 win over the previously unbeaten Flashes on Monday at Santa Clara.

Teron (5-0), a senior left-hander, struck out 12 batters and allowed just two singles as Santa Clara (10-4 overall, 7-2 in league play) closed the gap on Fillmore (13-2-1, 7-1-1). Teron finished the game with some excitement: He walked the first three batters in the 7th inning, then fanned Fillmore’s No. 1, 2 and 3 hitters to close the deal.

Ron Tegland went two for three and scored two runs for the Saints while teammates Matt Garcia (two for three, one RBI) and Armando Maciel (two for two) enjoyed fine days at the plate.
