Harvard Seeks 5th Tennis Title in a Row in 2-A Championship Against Righetti

For the past five years, the month of May has been somewhat predictable at Harvard High.

Flowers bloom and the Saracens play for a Southern Section boys’ tennis title.

Harvard, which has won four consecutive Southern Section titles, will try to make it five in a row today in the 2-A Division championship at the Minami Sports Center in Santa Maria.

Harvard, which has won the past two 2-A titles and claimed 1-A titles in 1987 and 1988, will play Righetti at 3:15 p.m.

Seven players are back from last year’s team, which finished 18-2 under Coach Harry Salamandra and defeated Cate, 10-8, for the title.

And although just one of its players is a senior, Harvard has been ranked No. 1 since the outset of this season.

The Saracens are led in singles by freshman Phillip Tseng, junior Jeremy Steckler, junior Chuck Tseng and sophomore Aaron Cohen.

Steckler and Chuck Tseng entered the Southern Section individual finals in doubles but lost in the first round last week.
