Jurisprudence
The World Boxing Council was prohibited by a New Jersey judge from holding a purse bid this weekend on a proposed heavyweight title fight between champion Evander Holyfield and former champion Mike Tyson.
Superior Court Judge Amos Saunders said that only the International Boxing Federation could accept bids from promoters seeking to stage the bout. He blocked the WBC from holding a purse bid Saturday, according to Karen Passero, Saunders’ law clerk.
The court decision could pave the way for a contract agreement between Holyfield, who is represented by Dan Duva of Main Events-Monitor, and Tyson, who is represented by Don King.
