Share

A pedestrian crossing Beach Boulevard early Sunday was killed after he was struck by a car driven by a man suspected of being drunk, police said.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police said the man was walking westbound across Beach Boulevard, about 75 yards north of Yorktown Avenue, at about 2 a.m. when he was hit by a car driven by Vincent J. Chacon IV, who was driving southbound on the boulevard.

The car’s right-front fender struck the victim, propelling him into the windshield and tossing him to the ground, where he came to rest against a storm drain at the curb, police said.

Chacon drove about a quarter-mile past the scene and then returned to see what he had hit, according to police.
