El Monte : Suspected Burglar Shot

Share

A resident who believed that his home was being burglarized by an armed man Tuesday confronted the suspect and shot him once in the leg, police said.

Gustavo Pimentel, 51, told police that he was in his bedroom when he saw a man climb through a living room window at his home in the 12000 block of Deana Street, said Officer Victor Hernandez. Pimentel said he saw the suspect reach for an object in his waistband and, believing it was a gun, fired three shots from a .22-caliber revolver.

Edward Contreras, 27, was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center with a leg wound and was arrested on suspicion of burglary. No weapons were found on Contreras, but an electric garage door opener was clipped to his waistband, Hernandez said.

Detectives said they do not intend to file charges against Pimentel.
