Daughter, Wife Slain; Man Shoots Himself

A Long Beach man shot his wife to death Sunday afternoon during an argument and killed his adult daughter when she tried to intervene, then turned the gun on himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt, police said.

Noralee Bibby, 22, and her mother, Norma Rutkowski, 52, were found dead in a bathroom in the family home on Brayton Avenue, paramedics said. Charles Rutkowski, 50, was in the same area, a revolver at his side. He was hospitalized in serious condition with a head wound.

“The husband and wife have been arguing for years,” Police Sgt. Ty Hatfield said, relating witnesses’ statements to detectives. “The daughter was staying with her parents for fear of her mother’s safety.”
