Associated Press

Jose Gonzalez ended half a season of frustration Sunday. After going hitless in his first 29 at-bats this season, he singled in the eighth inning Sunday for his new club, the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Frustrated by his failure to hit and lack of playing time with the Dodgers, Gonzalez asked to be traded. They sent him to the Pirates last week for Mitch Webster.

Boston right-hander Danny Darwin was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Red Sox for the second time this season with recurring tendinitis. He has a 3-6 record and a 5.16 ERA. . . . The New York Yankees placed center fielder Roberto Kelly on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right wrist.
