BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Red Sox Give Up on Mike Marshall
Unable to find any takers in the trade market, the Boston Red Sox released Mike Marshall.
The Red Sox decided to dump the first baseman/outfielder and eat the remainder of his $1.3-million contract for 1991 in order to make room on the 25-man roster for right-hander Dana Kiecker, who has been on a rehabilitation assignment at Pawtucket of the International League.
In 22 games, Marshall, 31, acquired from the New York Mets last July, batted 62 times, hitting .290 with one home run and seven runs batted in.
