PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Fisher Pleased With Scrimmage Effort

Share

After going over the tapes of the Rams’ Saturday scrimmage with the San Diego Chargers, defensive coordinator Jeff Fisher said he was relatively pleased with the overall performance of his defense. Most of the Rams’ front-line offense didn’t play in the scrimmage, but almost all of the defense saw plenty of time.

“There were way too many minor mistakes in terms of the mental errors, things like that, but it was pretty good for our first effort,” Fisher said Sunday. “I think the guy that stands out is (rookie) Robert Young up front. He was very active up the field pass rushing, against the run, plays probably most if not all of the 48 plays inside at tackle and the last play of the game is sprinting downfield after a pass and trying to get into a tackle.”

As the holdout of No. 1 draft pick Todd Lyght moves closer day-by-day to severely reducing the cornerback’s ability to play a major role this season, John Robinson is making it clear that the defense will not fall apart without Lyght.

“I read everywhere that Todd Lyght’s penciled in as the starter,” Robinson said. “I’ve never seen that pencil. He is competing the same as everybody else. It’s all a process of earning it. I think people get really distorted about it.”
