PRO FOOTBALL : DAILY REPORT : RAMS
In order to make room on the 80-man roster for Perry, the Rams released linebacker Vernon Maxwell, a seven-year veteran. Maxwell, who missed all of last season after being waived in training camp by the Phoenix Cardinals, was expected to compete for a backup job at left outside linebacker. But Robinson said that since Maxwell didn’t figure to make the team the way camp was going, the Rams wanted to release him early enough to give him a shot with somebody else. . . . Guard Bern Brostek was poked in the left eye during the afternoon practice and was scheduled to have it examined Tuesday evening by Dr. James Boyce, the team’s ophthalmologist. . . . Offensive lineman Jeff Pahukoa, a 12th-round choice, is out for a few weeks after spraining a ligament in his left knee.
