PREP FOOTBALL ’91 / GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE : Santiago

Outlook

Allen doesn’t want the other teams in the league to be caught by surprise, so he’s making one thing perfectly clear: “We are going to throw the ball,” he said. “We are going to feature the passing game, no doubt about it.” And well he should, since he’s got a capable quarterback in three year starter Carrasco. His likely targets will be McGarrh, Scanlan--a Times’ second-team all-county baseball player last season--and Bergin, who is being converted to tight end from offensive tackle. Whenever they run, the Cavaliers will rely on Tisor and Noisy to give them the quality ground game they got last season from all-league fullback Alex Ripley (811 yards rushing in eight games). The kicking game is in good hands--uh, feet-- with Agramont, the only Santiago first team all-leaguer last year. Allen said the team has steady linebackers and a strong secondary but questionable offensive and defensive lines, where only Lavan returns at defensive tackle.
