COLLEGE ROUNDUP : SCC Women Take 2 Matches in Volleyball Tournament

The Southern California College women’s volleyball team won two matches Saturday at the New Mexico Highlands Tournament in Las Vegas, N.M., beating Adams State (Colo.) in four games, and Colorado Christian in five games.

Julie Jones had 31 assists and five aces for SCC in the opener, beating Adams State, 15-6, 15-10, 2-15, 15-3.

Against Colorado Christian, Genevie Wright had 26 kills for SCC (7-3), which won, 15-12, 15-3, 5-15, 4-15, 15-11.

At the Cal State Northridge Invitational:

UC Irvine 3, University of San Diego 0--Dana Chalais had 15 kills and Traci Webb had 29 assists for Irvine, which won its first match of the season, 15-10, 15-12, 15-10.

Cal State Northridge 3, Cal State Fullerton 1--Becky Howlett had 10 kills for Fullerton (0-5), which lost, 11-15, 15-6, 15-9, 15-5.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

UC Irvine 1, Cal State Northridge 0--John O’Brien scored the game’s only goal 11 minutes 19 seconds into the first half, giving UCI (1-0) the victory in its home opener.

Loyola Marymount 2, Christ College Irvine 0--CCI (1-2) failed to score despite outshooting Loyola, 23-12. Dannel Christian scored on a breakaway in the first half for host Loyola.

Southern California College 2, Menlo College 1--Carlos Miramontes scored both goals in the first half for visiting SCC (3-1).

Chapman 0, Cal Lutheran 0 (OT)--John Kinley had four saves for visiting Chapman (0-1).

In nonconference women’s soccer:

UC Irvine 0, Chico State 0 (OT)--The match was halted in Irvine because of darkness at the 13-minute mark in overtime.

Cal Lutheran 3, Chapman 1--Carey Wright scored 20 minutes into the second half for visiting Chapman (0-1).
