Thousand Oaks 35, Saugus 9--Thousand Oaks scored 26 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to overwhelm Saugus at Canyon High.
Senior tailback Cory Bowen rushed 18 times for 182 yards and scored two touchdowns, one on an 85-yard run on Thousand Oaks’ first possession of the second half. Bowen would have topped the 200-yard plateau, but a 64-yard, first-quarter touchdown run was nullified by a clipping penalty.
Rob Chilton booted a 34-yard field goal on Saugus’ initial possession and the Centurions held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter. The Centurions would not score again until the fourth quarter.
Thousand Oaks outrushed Saugus, 316 yards to 122. Saugus quarterback Bobby Cowan passed for 136 yards and one touchdown, completing 10 of 24 passes. He threw three interceptions.
